BCE Surveying Pty Ltd is a national surveying company and has operated in a commercial capacity since 1994. With fully operational offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Bunbury we service the land development, civil, mining, construction and 3D spatial industries across Australia.

BCE has built a strong reputation for excellence in the Capture, Management and Provision of 3D spatial data. Utilising innovative technologies, our team of skilled professionals can capture above and below the ground and water to unprecedented levels of quality, accuracy and service.

Certification to ISO9001 and ISO45001 ensures a high quality service and offers solutions to clients that limits risks through it’s commitment to it’s Management systems.

Through sponsorship of several organisations and sporting groups, BCE gives back to local community and contributes to society.

Key Staff

Bill Catalano
Managing Director

Bill Catalano founded BCE Surveying in 1994 and is the Owner/Director of BCE Surveying and BCE Spatial, he is also the Owner/Director of BCE Boodja Surveying with Michael Little. He prides himself on offering a high quality of service to the client and a rewarding place for employees to work and expand on their skills.
Bill started his career with the Public Works Department / Water Authority of WA (now known as the Water Corporation) in 1977 and worked there until 1993. He has extensive experience in engineering, construction, cadastral, geodetic surveying, dimensional control, precise levelling 1st and 2nd order, dam deformation monitoring, land development, project management, 3D spatial surveys including mobile, terrestrial laser scanning and underground utility’s locations.
His leadership and entrepreneurial skills have enabled the company to expand into the East Coast market, with offices now in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
Bill is a member of WAIS.

Katrina Catalano
Chief Financial Officer

Katrina Catalano holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Murdoch University with a double major in Extractive Metallurgy and Chemistry (with First Class Honours). She started her career working on remote mine sites, from Newman to Groote Eylandt, in the roles of Plant/Project Metallurgist. She returned to Perth in 1994 to engage in a private business venture before moving onto a position as Senior Metallurgist for a metallurgical testing facility.
Katrina joined BCE in early 2000, moving from Perth to Bunbury to help grow the business which she co-owns with Bill. She developed all the admin, HR, accounting and QA systems with Bill and has been instrumental in their evolution over the years. She has developed a good understanding of Surveying and supports the Licensed Surveying team with their land development projects.
Today Katrina continues to work full-time in the business and is supported by a very dedicated admin team. She prides herself with meticulous record keeping and plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day running of the business.

Michael Little
Director BCE Boodja Surveying

Michael Little is a Noongar Yamatji man with traditional connections to Wilman, Wadandi and Nyikita people and has extensive experience in business and traditional Owner Engagement.

He is also the Owner/Director of BCE Boodja Surveying since its incorporation in 2013.

Michael’s professional experience is in community and business development, native title and strategic engagement with Aboriginal communities.

John Hammon
National Director of Operations

John Hammon joined BCE in 2021 as a multi-disciplined qualified surveyor with more than 23 years’ experience throughout Australia and overseas.

John has extensive experience in project management of large scale complex projects, geodetic networks and new and emerging technologies and was the WA State Manager prior to his appointment as General Manager for Western Australia and South Australia in November 2025..

As the National Director of Operations, John is responsible for all surveying, spatial and underground utility operations, operational strategic direction, project management, human resources and client liaison with a focus on accuracy, efficiency and client satisfaction.

John holds a Bachelor of Geomatic Engineering degree from the University of Melbourne.

Ryan Pearce
NSW State Manager

As a qualified Civil Engineer with over 17 years’ experience and BCE’s accredited Chief Pilot, Ryan delivers innovative surveying solutions across the full spectrum of the industry, with a specialist focus on remote sensing technologies.
His expertise spans aerial LiDAR, UAV surveying, Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS), Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS) and reality capture, supporting infrastructure and development projects.
Ryan’s depth of technical knowledge allows him to design and implement capture methodologies that address each project’s unique requirements—whether for precision planning, compliance, heritage documentation, or environmental monitoring. With a proven track record across government, commercial, and industrial sectors, Ryan combines innovation, accuracy, and clear communication to ensure clients receive data and insights they can rely on.

Daniel Johnson
VIC State Manager

Daniel Johnson brings over two decades of experience in the surveying and spatial industries, offering extensive expertise in team leadership, operations, project management, and business development. Throughout his career—as a business owner, operations manager, and project lead—Daniel has demonstrated a remarkable ability to guide high-performing teams and deliver exceptional results. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Cartography and has spent the past eight years overseeing all surveying requirements for some of Victoria’s largest and most prestigious Greenfield estates.

As the State Manager for Victoria, Daniel drives strategic growth by fostering strong client relationships and building a diverse, talented team. He is committed to delivering high-quality surveying and 3D spatial solutions across the land development, construction, and infrastructure sectors.

Jan Steenkamp
QLD State Manager

Jan Steenkamp brings over 26 years of survey experience across Australia, Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom, with the last two decades spent on some of Queensland’s largest infrastructure projects. His delivery track record spans Cross River Rail, Coomera Connector Central, Logan Enhancement, the Carmichael Rail Network, Brisbane Metro, the Graceville Station Upgrade, and the QCLNG and GLNG pipeline programmes.

Across his career, Jan has managed survey teams of up to 45 personnel and led utility data, BIM integration and as-built handover delivery on projects exceeding $1 billion in value. His sector experience covers rail, road, pipeline, mining, marine and high-rise construction.

As Queensland’s State Manager, Jan leads BCE’s growth across the state. His focus is on building a team clients trust and surveyors want to be part of.

Omid Besharat
WA State Manager

Omid is the WA State Manager at BCE Surveying, bringing over 15 years of experience in surveying, geospatial technologies, and reality capture he has a Masters Degree in Surveying. He has successfully delivered projects across infrastructure, construction, utilities, mining, and the built environment, with expertise in terrestrial laser scanning, mobile mapping, UAVs, digital twins, and spatial data solutions.

Damian Morris
Survey Manager SW

Damian Morris is the Survey Manager at BCE’s Bunbury branch and manages the Bunbury projects, surveyors, trainees and contractors. He holds an Associate Diploma of Applied Science (Surveying).
He manages project preparation, Quality and WHS compliance for the South West and surrounding works. With over 30 years of surveying experience in the construction, civil, mining and general surveying sectors.
Having spent more than 20 years working on major WA infrastructure projects both in the South West and the Pilbara, he specialises in GPS and TS based machine control systems maintenance, setup and construction modelling. He is both multi-rotor and VTOL drone (UAV) qualified and works on small and large scale UAV and Hydrographic project works for surface, volumetric and Ortho mosaic deliverables.

Luca Muscella
Perth Survey Manager

Luca has extensive experience in surveying, drafting, laser scanning and model production. With over ten years in construction surveying, architectural metalwork, structural steel, and reinforced concrete, he brings a broad and valuable skill set to BCE.

As an experienced Survey Manager and Lead Scanning Surveyor, Luca oversees and coordinates our Perth surveying team.

Chris McIntosh
Business Development Manager

Chris McIntosh is BCE’s Business Development Manager and has been with BCE in this position for 8 years.

At BCE Surveying, his roles include client liaison, being the point of contact for new and existing customers, he assists with facilitation of contract requirements and tenders preparation and he ensures ongoing customer consideration and satisfaction.

Darlene Cattach
HSEQ Manager

Darlene Cattach has worked as the lead in Quality Management systems compliant to ISO9001 since 1994. She has owned and worked in a variety of small businesses in the manufacturing and wholesale sectors managing their finances, administration and Quality Assurance.

Darlene maintains and improves BCE’s Quality and Safety systems and their compliance to ISO9001 and ISO45001. With Darlene’s accounting experience and qualifications, she facilitates HR, payroll, accounts receivables and other administrative duties in the Bunbury office of BCE Surveying in addition to the Health, Safety and Quality roles.
